历史背景：
马塔雷关爱中心是一个非营利性的非政府组织，致力于通过推动社会融合、技能发展以及在生活各方面的积极表现，为残疾人打造一个更加美好的生活。该中心是由一群亲身经历过照顾残疾人所带来的种种挑战，并深受其影响的人共同创立的。由于与社区其他成员有着共同的愿景并面临着同样的挑战，他们萌生了建立这样一个组织的想法。

马塔雷关爱中心的使命在于通过以下途径提升马塔雷贫民窟中特殊需求者的生活质量：

• 为有特殊需求的儿童及其家庭提供更全面、更适宜的支持

马塔雷贫民窟概览
马塔雷是肯尼亚首都内罗毕最大的贫民窟之一，坐落于城市的东部，是内罗毕大多数城市贫困人口的聚集地。

Mathare Care Center

History
Mathare Care Center is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that assists people with disabilities in building better lives through social integration, skill development, and useful representation in all aspects of life. The center was formed by individuals affected by the real challenges of having a person with a disability. United by common interests and shared challenges with the rest of the community, they conceived the idea of establishing a unique organization with a specific perspective.

Mission Statement and Goals
We aim to improve the quality of life for people living with special needs in poor families in the Mathare slums by:

• Increasing appropriate support for children with special needs and their families

• Enhancing social interaction between families with children with special needs

• Promoting the integration of children with special needs and young adults into the wider community

• Providing education and life skills development

Overview of Mathare Slums

Mathare is one of the largest slum settlements in Nairobi, Kenya, located on the eastern side of the city. It is home to a significant portion of Nairobi’s urban poor. Here are some key points about the Mathare slums:

• Population and Size：Mathare is densely populated, with estimates of its population varying widely; it is believed to be home to hundreds of thousands of people. The settlement covers a relatively small area but is densely packed with makeshift structures.

• Living Conditions：The living conditions in the Mathare slums are challenging, often characterized by poverty, lack of basic services, and inadequate infrastructure. Many residents live in small, makeshift shanties made of corrugated iron sheets and other salvaged materials. Access to clean water, sanitation, and healthcare is limited.

• Education and Employment：Educational opportunities are limited in the slums, resulting in many children lacking access to formal schooling. However, NGOs and community organizations are working to provide informal education and vocational training programs to empower the youth.

• Community and Resilience：Despite the harsh living conditions, the people of Mathare exhibit incredible resilience and a strong sense of community. Many community-based organizations and NGOs work tirelessly to improve residents' lives and provide essential services.
